Gary Barkey

Gary Barkey retired from Dallas ISD as an elementary and middle school band director in June of 2013, having taught in DISD for 6 years. Other teaching experience includes: Liberty Christian School in Argyle (TX), assistant band director; private low brass tutor in Birdville ISD (Hurst, TX), Crowley ISD, and Azle ISD; low brass instructor and Artist in Residence at Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC.

Mr. Barkey's current music group affiliations include: New Texas Symphony Orchestra, principal trombonist; Cathedral of Hope orchestra, principal trombonist; Buddy’s Big Band (Ft. Worth), lead trombonist; substitute trombonist with Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra.

Previous music group affiliations include: member of Jazz Monsters (Ft. Worth), North Richland Hills Symphony Orchestra, principal; staff musician at Tanner Recording Studios in Memphis, TN; military service as a U.S. Air Force bandsman.

Mr. Barkey holds both a Bachelor & Master of Music degree from the University of Iowa, and was a Doctoral candidate and Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas, Denton, 1975-78.
